What does La Strada sound like? Passionate like great opera? Exuberantly lively like good street music? Quiet and thoughtful like a ballad? After 25 years, it was time to find out. Christian Muthspiel, one of Austria’s most important jazz composers, provides the soundtrack to the festival - inspired by the works of Federico Fellini, to whom it owes its name, and the film compositions of Nino Rota. La Melodia della Strada will be premiered by Muthspiel’s 18-piece ORJAZZTRA VIENNA at the festival opening in the Graz Opera House. The focus of the piece is the music, the community of an orchestra and its soloists. Staged with light, shadow and musicians bursting with energy, for an audience that finally gets its (title-) tune to the art of summer in Graz.
